Philosophers have always enjoyed asking awkward and provocative questions. Some of these include: What is the nature of reality? What are human beings really like? What is special about the human mind and consciousness? Are we free to choose who we are and what we do? Can we prove that God exists? Can we be certain about anything at all? What is truth? Does language provide us with a true picture of the world? How should we behave towards each other? Do computers think?
Written by Dave Robinson and illustrated by Judy Groves, Introducing Philosophy is a comprehensive and enjoyable graphic guide to philosophical thinking.
It examines and explains the key arguments and ideas of all the significant philosophers of the Western world from Heraclitus to Derrida. Lively, accessible and never obscure, it is the perfect introduction for anyone who is intrigued by who philosophers are, and the sort of questions they ask.

It was "bitesize" enough to read on the tube or bus but I felt that I was expanding my mind at the same time. It takes a light and playful (but not reductive) approach to some weighty philosophical debates, whilst giving you a good understanding of the great thinkers and their ideas.

As someone with an interest in Philosophy, this book provided a pleasant introduction. Beginning with the history of Philosophy right throught to the modern day philosophers. The "Western Philosophy at a Glance" section at the back of the book was useful as it breaks down the philosophers into categories.

As a Philosophy sceptic I was weary when I picked up this book, however I found it to be an easy, enjoyable read full of interesting debates and history, instead of being full of the confusing 'What's the point?' drama a lot of Philosophy guides are full of.
