In late 2012 Icon will be publishing Introducing Infinity by Brian Clegg and Oliver Pugh.
The book will explore the idea of infinity, where it came from, what uses it has and what scientists and philosophers have understood by it. I could go on…and on…and (stop there – Ed).
And Icon are launching a VERY special competition for you to have a cameo role in the book. The winner of our competition will submit a photo of themselves – and be drawn into a page of Introducing Infinity by the artist! You’ll thereby live forever inside – fittingly enough – the page of Introducing Infinity…
Amazing! How do I enter?
Here’s what you have to do:
Can you summarize a topic that the Introducing series covers, in 100 characters?
Some examples are below. Post your summary on Twitter, including the hashtag #beinabook and this link (http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od) and that’s it!
The results will be judged by Duncan Heath, Icon’s Editorial Director, and Brian Clegg, author of Introducing Infinity, and the summary that they think is the most accurate, amusing and apposite will win!
There are 25 runners-up prizes, randomly selected from all entries, of one free Introducing title of your choice (or, alternatively, one of the Introducing apps).
The closing date is 5pm, Sunday 22nd January 2012. Get thinking and get tweeting! Here are some examples to help you out:
Introducing Shakespeare: life's sometimes tragic, sometimes comic, but almost always involves cross-dressing and confusion. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Descartes: Seeing isn't believing, reality might be a dream, and I may not exist - but I tweet, therefore I am. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Freud: a man who realised he could refute anyone who disagreed with him with two words: 'in denial.' Crafty. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Shakespeare: a playwright who fooled us all into thinking he was a genius with words by inventing most of them. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Freud: Desire for mother. Wish to castrate father. Frustration, repression, displacement, neurosis. Life's good. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Feminism: a slap in the face to anyone who thinks I should be baking cakes, crying hysterically or bra-burning. #beinabookhttp://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Nietzsche: hugged a horse, got whipped, decided life was utterly futile, killed God and became a superman. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
Introducing Postmodernism: (1) The idea that all realities are social constructs. (2) A load of smug self-referential tosh. #beinabook http://tinyurl.com/bpal8od
