Christopher Kul-want interviews Slavoj Zizek

‘The world’s most dangerous philosopher’, Slavoj Zizek, was in London last week to promote his latest book, Living in the End Times (Verso), and to give several keynote addresses including a sell-out talk at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the London Literature Festival.

During his visit he met with author Christopher Kul-Want and illustrator Piero to discuss their plans for Introducing guide to his ideas due for publication next year.

Always keen to take theory out of the ivory tower of academia and bring it into the world, Zizek was wholeheartedly enthusiastic about depicting his philosophy in pictorial terms, generously offering a series of ways of visualisng his ideas for the projected book.

Repeatedly in his meeting Zizek returned to his favoured topic that forms the core of his political interests: the obscene, illicit underside to ideology and power. It’s a subject that seems ready made for Introducing’s graphic treatment aided, not least, by Zizek’s own inimitable style of inquiry that draws upon a ready assortment of jokes, anecdotes and illustration from films and popular culture.

Introducing Slavoj Zizek will be published in autumn of 2011.
